Our name includes the word "bionetworks" for two reasons. First, the foundation of what we do is to assemble many different types of biological data from people with brain disorders and determine how they fit together. The computer simulations we are developing are really virtual reconstructions of the biological interactions - or networks - that give rise to brain disorders.
Second, we need a living network of partners to provide data, expertise, technology and funding to make our vision a reality. This cooperative alliance - which includes complementary partners from the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, computer modeling and information technology companies, academic and government laboratories, and patient advocacy groups - is Orion Bionetworks.
